The first fifty thousand vouchers of the Fix Your Bike Voucher Program were made available online through top-notch software applications.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the government’s most ambitious plan to promote walking and cycling. The vision includes building secured bicycle paths, bicycle training for everyone, and to become the first city without traffic. Addressing the cause of the disease, not just the symptoms, is critical to reducing the burden on the NHS health system.
Facts have proven that cycling can bring huge benefits to people’s physical and mental health. The strategy had been based on the increase in bicycle use as a result of the corona pandemic. The plan provides a complete long-term vision to promote proactive mobility and how to obtain long-term benefits in all areas of society.
Fix your Bike Voucher Scheme
In line with the announcement of this, £50 bike repair vouchers had been released as part of the project to encourage people to get back on their bikes. Gears like bike maintenance stands could possibly be rolled out to those who are in need of bike maintenance. The goal is to encourage people to bring their old bicycles back in shape to make it roadworthy.
More people will further appreciate riding bicycles versus riding public transport, for instance, when they go out for groceries or just to visit friends. The first fifty thousand vouchers were made available online through top-notch software applications. In the first phase, the British government works closely with the bicycle society to track the success of the plan and to make it necessary adjustments before launching it at a larger scale.
The Vision of Cycling and Walking Strategy Includes
- The need to renovate infrastructure by designing protected bicycle lanes; impose higher requirements on bicycle infrastructure-under the supervision of a new regulatory agency-to improve the national bicycle community.
- Through the development of long-term cycling plans and budgets, long-term capital investment could be secured, thereby increasing funding.
- Improve road safety by strengthening road traffic laws and regulations to better protect pedestrians and cyclists; strengthen legal protection for road users; improve truck safety standards, and cooperate with police and retailers to prevent bicycle theft.
- Assist local authorities to deal with traffic violations; and suggest measures on how to address traffic offenders in primary road networks.
- Improve the quality of air and reduce volume of traffic through the creation of low-traffic regions by the reduction of clandestine traffic. This includes proper dissemination of knowledge to communities about the right of local government and municipalities to impose closure of secondary roads.
- Build more “school streets” to cut down on traffic; fund 12 new bike-friendly neighborhoods (called “mini Holland”), and build a city center that has zero emissions traffic.
- Encourage general practitioners to drive bicycles by trying a new method in some areas with poor health, so that people can use bicycles through the local doctor’s office, thereby helping people live healthier lives
- Improve the use of electric bicycles by establishing a new national electric bicycle plan to help people who are older, travel long distances, or are not suitable for traditional bicycles
Change the status quo on the streets
Furthermore, design guidelines for bike infrastructure had been updated to bring more stringent policies with the use of it. These guidelines will be monitored by Active Travel England who will also manage the bike budget and make sure that the new standards are met.
